Accessible Library Services- Somerset

Somerset Council aim to provide accessible services for library members with special needs or disabilities. They offer support and services for carers, foster carers, home educators and child minders.

Specialist book collections cover mental health, autism, dementia, long-term conditions, adult literacy and learning English. If you have an accessibility issue not covered by these initiatives, please speak to library staff.

Additional concessions if you are blind, partially sighted or have other disabilities that affect reading such as dyslexia.

Driving and Mobility Centre- West of England

The Driving and Mobility Centre West of England can help disabled and older people keep mobile and independent, and help those affected by medical conditions stay safe on the road. We have an expert team of Occupational Therapists and Driving Advisors that undertake comprehensive assessments of ability to drive a vehicle safely and in comfort.

Monthly Social Club – Somerset Sight Frome

This social club meets in Frome at the Archangel, 1 King Street, Frome, BA11 1BH on the last Thursday of every month at 10.30am to 12.30pm. The room is located on the ground floor at the back of the building in the bar area which is fully accessible for wheelchairs.

Attendees will be able to order drinks from the bar and individual payments can be taken without anyone having to leave the room.

Somerset Sight runs a volunteer visiting and befriending service across the county which is available to anyone with sight loss. If you know someone who would benefit from a befriender or may need other practical or emotional help, such as magnifiers lighting or talking books, please get in touch.
