British Legion Support for veterans with dementia or their carers

The Royal British Legion provides lifelong support for the Armed Forces community – serving men and women, veterans, and their families. This includes Admiral Nurses, Care Homes and Holiday Breaks. Legion beneficiaries can be either the person with dementia or the carer.

The Admiral Nurses service is jointly provided by the Legion and Dementia UK. The nurses specialise in dementia, helping family carers gain the necessary skills to assist with dementia care, promoting positive approaches in living well with dementia and improving the quality of life for everyone involved. They are also trained to offer anticipatory grief support, for example for people whose spouse has been moved to a nursing home, so they are dealing with a huge change to their and their partner’s lives. People can ring the Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline on 0800 888 6678 from 9am to 9pm Monday to Friday, and from 9am to 5pm over the weekend.
