ARC (Antenatal Results and Choices)

ARC offers non-directive information and support to parents before, during and after antenatal screening; when they are told their baby has an anomaly; when they are making difficult decisions about continuing with or ending a pregnancy, and when they are coping with complex and painful issues after making a decision, including bereavement.

Bereavement Advice Centre

The Bereavement Advice Centre is a free helpline and web-based information service provided by Co-op Legal Services. It provides practical information, advice and signposting on the many issues and procedures that face people after the death of someone close. The service welcomes calls from bereaved people and the professionals and volunteers who support them.

This advice line is open Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm

Bereavement Care

The bereavement well-being group offers friendly support and provides an opportunity to meet with other people who are experiencing the pain of bereavement. This group currently runs online:

4th Thursday of the month from 12pm – 1pm

Please call to book yourself a place.

One-to-one counselling with a qualified counsellor via telephone is also available, although there is currently an 8 week waiting list. Please call to refer yourself to this service.

Child Death Support Helpline

The Helpline is for anyone affected by the death of a child of any age, from pre-birth to adult, under any circumstances, however recently or long ago. It is operated by a dedicated team of volunteers who are all bereaved parents themselves, so they do understand.

Monday to Sunday 7pm to 10pm.

Monday, Thursday, Friday 10am to 1pm.

Tuesday and Wednesday 10am to 4pm

Cruse Somerset- Bereavement Support

Cruse Bereavement Support is the leading grief charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  Their trained Bereavement Support Volunteers provide support for people who are grieving. They also offer a range of online services including self-help resources and online chat.   Grief is personal and so is grief support.  You can speak to them on the phone, online or get in touch with them about ongoing grief support sessions.

Focus Frome-Young Persons Wellbeing Drop In

Frome Birth Talk

Frome Birth Talk is a charity in Frome that provides free professional counselling for anyone who is pregnant, has had a baby in the last 2 years or has experienced baby loss.
We support all parents regardless of gender and offer both free counselling and weekly support groups. We’re supported by the Friends of Frome Hospital and use the Friends Room for our counselling sessions and we also offer Zoom and phone counselling sessions.

We  run two in-person drop-in groups – on Wednesday we use the Moxon Suite at Frome Community Hospital for our Bump to Baby group (10am-11.30am), and on Fridays we run a Frome Toddler Talk group at Trinity Hall for pre-school children (9.30am-11.30am). Both groups run throughout the school holidays.

Heads Up

Heads Up work with individuals affected by mental health issues and other difficulties, in order to help them towards recovery, greater well-being and quality of life. They offer a variety of courses, classes and therapies.

Heads Up also run Heads Up Connect, meeting every two weeks. This is a friendly social group with regular speakers suggested by the members.

Josephine’s Star- Somerset

Josephine’s Star offer support to children and their families in Somerset when someone special has died. Thier trained volunteers provide professional help to children, young people and their families either individually or in facilitated groups. Referrals can be made by a school, healthcare professional or family member and must be with the agreement of the carer and child concerned. Please complete the contact form on their website.

Somerset Suicide Bereavement Support Service

Somerset Suicide Bereavement Support Service is here for anyone bereaved by suicide in Somerset.  We offer emotional support as well as guidance through the trauma of sorting out personal affairs. Fully trained members of staff advise on matters such as liaising with the Police, Coroner’s office and faith groups.  Most importantly, we are here to listen at a time of great stress and anguish.

We are now able to offer support via Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp, telephone, or via our new Chat Box which is located in the bottom right-hand corner of our website.  Individuals can also reach us via email.  We aim to respond to anyone who contacts us within 48 hrs during the working week.

SSAFA Armed Forces Charity

SSAFA provides lifelong support to anyone who is currently serving or has ever served in the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, the British Army or the Royal Air Force.

Sweet Track Counselling Services – Glastonbury

The Sweet Track Counselling Agency is a low-cost counselling service based in Glastonbury town centre.  It offers an opportunity to benefit from counselling if you are on a low income or face a long wait for other services. Counselling is available for both adults and young people.

The counselling is provided by student counsellors working towards a nationally recognised counselling diploma. Students are supervised by a fully qualified counsellor  All students are members of the BACP or another professional body and hold insurance for their work.

Talking Therapies offer a wide range of treatments for adults 18 years of age and over who are registered with a GP surgery in the Somerset area. Talking Therapies is for people experiencing mild to moderate depression, general anxiety and worry, panic attacks, social anxiety, traumatic memories , obsessive compulsive disorder and adjustment to living with a long term physical health condition.

The Nelson Trust – women’s community services

The Nelson Trust Support people with multiple and complex needs whose lives have been impacted by addiction or are in contact with the criminal justice system.

They accept referrals from any professional or women may refer themselves. Every woman is offered a detailed individual assessment of their needs across “pathways” such as mental health, family and relationships, addiction issues, domestic abuse. Each client has their own Keyworker who works with them to co-create a support plan to address their needs.

YOU-TH SPACE counselling for 15-18 year olds – Frome

You-th Space is an affordable and friendly counselling service in Frome and the Mendips for 15 to 18 year olds who are facing common issues such as anxiety, depression, feelings of loneliness or isolation, or just feeling different to others.

As a charity, the service relies on the generosity of people’s donations. Those who can afford to are asked to contribute to the costs of the counselling. However, the service is offered free of charge to those who need it.
