It provides practical information, advice and signposting on the many issues and procedures that face people after the death of someone close. Child Death Support Helpline
The Helpline is for anyone affected by the death of a child of any age, from pre-birth to adult, under any circumstances, however recently or long ago. It is operated by a dedicated team of volunteers who are all bereaved parents themselves, so they do understand.
Monday to Sunday 7pm to 10pm.

Frome Town Ranger Volunteers
Assisting Frome Town Council’s rangers in outdoor tasks, including tree planting, gardening, woodland maintenance, wildflower meadow creations and any other tasks that are specific to the season.

Glastonbury Mental Health Network
Glastonbury Mental Health Network (GMHN) is a charity that aims to connect local people with projects, practitioners, services and events that can support and improve mental health and wellbeing. The charity also delivers projects and services, including local community/safe spaces and training courses.
GMHN runs a weekly event called The Snug at the Red Brick Building, BA6 9FT, between 12pm – 5pm. This is a safe space, open to all, with lots of creative activities available, gentle music, free refreshments and volunteer listeners. The event is free. Hallr Wood – Somerton
Hallr Wood is a small woodland near Somerton with some fantastic infrastructure that allows a variety of events to be hosted, in all kinds of weather. There is a green woodworking workshop, woodland stage, various shelters, a rustic kitchen/cafe, pizza oven, Romano-British style pottery kiln, and compost toilets. A diverse range of programmes run all year around, including therapeutic interventions, and a range of school/children’s/family sessions.
Volunteers are needed to help out in the woodland on Wednesdays, contact the team for further information.

Healthy Homes – A Green & Healthy Future Frome
We aim to ensure that people in Frome who are at risk of cold homes get the support they need. For households on low incomes living in houses with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or under this could include financial support of up to £10,000 towards improving the energy efficiency of your home.
The free Energy Essentials course is designed to enable you to provide energy advice to people in Frome. If you work in a role where you are in contact with the public, give advice or support on other issues, or would like to become a Healthy Homes volunteer, this training is for you.

Mobile Library Service
Somerset Mobile Libraries provide a service to rural parts of the county where there is no static library. Wheelchair access is available on all vehicles, WRVS volunteers or the Good Neighbour Scheme can deliver. The mobile library driver will help you get on and off the vehicle. To use this service you just need to be a member of Somerset Libraries, membership is free.

Nature reserves within the Avalon Marshes
RSPB Hall Wall (BA6 9SX)
Ham Wall is a wetland teeming with wildlife – from rare species like water voles and otters to magnificent birds like bitterns and kingfishers. Enjoy stunning views across the marshes to Glastonbury Tor and follow secluded paths through the landscape. Free to access but £3 for parking (free parking for RSPB members).

A local flat and even cycle way / footpath runs through the heart of the reserve (the old railway track), linking Glastonbury to Ham Wall and onto Shapwick Heath nature reserve.

Shapwick Heath (Western entrance, BA6 9TT)
Next to Ham Wall, Shapwick Heath is located at the heart of the Avalon Marshes area. It is an internationally important site for wetland birds and is composed of a mosaic of wetland habitats including traditional wildflower meadows, a network of ditches, fen, mire and wet woodland, along with open water and reed beds restored from former peat-diggings. Shapwick Heath is also the location of the Neolithic ‘Sweet Track’, a scheduled ancient monument and the oldest man-made trackway in Britain, preserved in the anaerobic conditions of the reserves wet peat soils.
Visitor information, parking, a café and public toilets can be found at the Avalon Marshes Centre. Visitors can also access archaeological reconstructions such as a Saxon longhall, the dining room of a Roman villa and an Iron Age roundhouse, which 110 volunteers have worked on since 2015.

A chance to get outside, get active, meet like-minded people and make a difference. Volunteer session every Wednesday from 10.00-1.00 pm. Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. Red Cross Support at Home Service
The Red Cross helps thousands of people following a short stay in hospital and prevents unnecessary hospital admissions by providing extra support at home. The support offered by our volunteers can smooth the process of settling back into a normal routine and enable people to regain their confidence and independence. The service includes: rebuilding confidence, collecting prescriptions, offering companionship, assistance with shopping. The service is available on a time-limited basis. Usually 6 weeks. Referrals are accepted from GPs, hospitals, social workers and individuals. No Domestic chores such as washing up carried out.

Volunteers will visit you at home and work with you to create a support package that suits you. Somerset Bereavement Support Partnership
Somerset Bereavement Support Partnership in partnership with Marie Curie Companions can provide bereavement support for people across Somerset who are over the age of 18. This service provides telephone support calls with compassionate volunteers. In addition, a further six sessions of one to one bereavement counselling can be provided by experienced bereavement support workers at Mind in Somerset specialist bereavement service. Mind in Somerset support adults and children aged 12+ . They can work in a whole family setting if needed.

Stroke Association ‘Here For You’ Telephone support service
If you or someone you know has had a stroke, a weekly phone conversation with one of our trained volunteers can help you to rebuild your life after stroke. Talking things through on the phone can build confidence. It can help you feel more connected, supported and able to take the next step in your recovery.

The British Red Cross
Looking for volunteers for their ‘Support at Home’ service which helps people on a short term basis who may need some support and help when they are first discharged from hospital. This could include collecting patients from hospital on the day of discharge then taking them home, or helping people settle back in at home, going shopping or befriending.
Full training is given and as a trained volunteer you can have the rewarding experience of helping others remain independent in their own homes. Could you spare a few hours to help support someone in need?

The Cinnamon Trust
The Cinnamon Trust is a national network of community service volunteers that provide practical help to people over 65 years of age or anyone in the final stages of a terminal illness. The service covers any aspect of day to day care of pets, for example, walking the dog for a housebound owner.
A national fostering service is provided for pets whose owners face a spell in hospital. Volunteers take pets into their own homes and supply love and care in abundance until owner and pet can be reunited. The Virtual Village Hall is a programme of themed online activities designed to enjoy at home.
